Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request you about making corrections on recently, published international travel magazine , which describes our town's information. I would like to explain the circumstamces and request about to add correct new information as my town is newly improved by new gym and also inaugrated with open stadium for all sports.

Firstly, correcting information may seems improtant for the readers to embrace the beauty of our town. In particular new availablity of 24/7 open gym facility for everyone. As result, it might proves beneficial for overall human growth and fitness.

Furthermore, newly build open stadium may seems unique for future sports , especially for youngsters who wants to play in their own town instead of moving to other towns and cities. I would appreciate it if you could do some above mentioned changes in the magazine.

I hope you will consider my request and take the necessary action at your earliest convienvce. I would be gratefull if you could confirm my request soon.

I look forward to hearing from you .

Your faithfully,

Rose.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all three parts of the task, though the development is somewhat limited and uneven. You successfully mentioned correcting the information about your town and introduced the new gym and stadium, which covers the first bullet point. The second bullet point regarding why it is important for the magazine to give correct information is touched upon when you mention embracing the beauty of the town and human growth, but this idea is under-developed. Similarly, your suggestion for what the magazine should do is partially addressed by asking them to make changes, but lacks clear elaboration. To reach a higher band, you would need to extend your ideas further, ensuring that the explanation and suggestions are fully explored with more specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you attempt to sequence your ideas into appropriate paragraphs, such as separating the correction from the reasons and the final request. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, transition phrases like 'Firstly' and 'Furthermore' are used to structure your thoughts, but referencing and logical flow between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, such as the sudden shift into the gym details in the first paragraph. Furthermore, punctuation and paragraph breaks at the end are slightly disorganized with broken sign-offs ('Your faithfully, Rose.'). To improve, you should ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly and that referencing across sentences remains clear throughout the whole text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'international travel magazine', 'human growth', and 'inaugrated'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'circunstamces', 'improtant', 'availablity', and 'gratefull'. Additionally, some collocations are awkward, such as 'request you about making corrections' or 'inaugrated with open stadium'. These errors and inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your control over less common lexical items, ensure correct word forms, and carefully check your spelling before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns with some attempts at complex sentences, which are frequently faulty. There are noticeable errors in grammatical structures, articles, and prepositions, such as 'recently, published international travel magazine' (incorrect comma placement and modifier structure), 'newly build' (should be 'built'), and 'convienvce' (spelling/grammar overlap). Errors occur frequently throughout the text, including issues with relative clauses ('youngsters who wants') and prepositions. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your overall message, they cause noticeable difficulty. To improve your grammar score, you should focus on producing a higher proportion of error-free sentences and mastering complex clause structures.
