Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Mam ,

I hope you find this letter well!

I am writing this letter to you for expressing my concern about the information which is displayed in your magazine. The information reveals the wrong expression about an individual who is completely decent and the accuse of stealing the data from the Network Center where he perform their duties as a data scientist. After confabulation with that person, the opposite has appear as truth, in this case, a person was just sharing the information with the government of India, during the process some hackers indulged with the process then their was a technical glicth occured. Therefore, the complete data get vanised and other employee for the same organisation blaming that individual which was certainly unacceptable. Taking evidence into the consideration, I humbly request you to please remove this misleading information from your esteemed international magzine and make it correct and present the real time information which shows the right and positive message.

Your Sincerely,

Vishal Chaudhary

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to correct information from a magazine article, explaining why accuracy matters, and suggesting a resolution. However, the task is only partially addressed because the student confuses the core scenario of the prompt—which asked to correct information about their 'town'—with a workplace data theft incident involving an individual. Consequently, the ideas appear somewhat irrelevant to the actual prompt requirements. While a position is presented regarding the misleading article about the data scientist, the main bullet point concerning the local town is missed, placing this criterion at a lower standard. To improve, the student must carefully read the specific prompt instructions and ensure all aspects of the local context and task bullets are accurately fulfilled.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter shows some organisation with an appropriate opening salutation, but it suffers from a lack of clear overall progression. The response is written as one dense block paragraph, lacking the logical paragraphing expected in an IELTS letter format where different points (correction, explanation, suggestion) should be separated. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or inadequate, such as the frequent use of 'the' or repetitive conjunctions like 'and' joining long, run-on clauses ('After confabulation with that person, the opposite has appear as truth, in this case, a person was just sharing...'). Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it hard to follow the sequence of events. To achieve a higher band, the student should break the response into clear paragraphs corresponding to each bullet point and use a wider range of accurate cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common and formal items such as 'confabulation', 'vanised', and 'esteemed'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'Dear Sir/Mam' (instead of Madam), 'reveals the wrong expression' (instead of incorrect information), 'accuse' (instead of accusation), 'glicth' (spelling error for glitch), 'vanised' (spelling error for vanished), and 'magzine'. Collocations are also unnatural in places, such as 'take evidence into the consideration'. To improve, the student needs to expand their control of word formation, check spelling carefully, and use more natural collocations suitable for formal correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on long, convoluted sentences where attempts at complexity frequently result in errors. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreements, such as 'I hope you find this letter well!' (instead of 'I hope this letter finds you well'), 'where he perform' (subject-verb agreement error), 'the opposite has appear' (incorrect verb form), 'their was a technical glicth occured' (double verb and tense confusion), and 'the complete data get vanised' (incorrect passive structure). Punctuation and article usage also show frequent inaccuracies. To reach a higher band, the student must focus on writing simpler, structurally sound sentences, ensuring correct verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and eliminating run-on structures.
