Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear
Sir
I am writing in response to your article which I came to my attention while reading the weekly magazine. In your article you mentioned some details about a town in which i am residing in. To my surprise some of the information provided in your article is totally wrong and can unnecessarily ruin the town reputation.
Firstly i would like to correct the information about the peak hours of electricity which you mention are not from 4 pm to 10 pm instead 5 to 9pm. furthermore please correct your statement regarding the cleanliness of our town along with the sewerage disturbance that you mentioned.
It is necessary that you correct the mentiioned information as it has a huge impact on people planning to purchase properties, and those who are thinking about renting out places. Secondly it is also not appropriate to give wrong information to people about a place which is infact opposite to the details you provided through your article. it is important to publish relaible information which in turns aids in developing credibilty and ensures that the readers continue to trust its content.
In my view you need to correct your mistake and you should do by that by publicly apologizing to the council member of the town's muncipal group, through an article or your personal blog. Loooking forward for a prompt answer.
yours sincerely,
Michelle

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you identify incorrect electricity peak hours, challenge the claims about cleanliness and sewerage, explain the possible effect on property decisions and reader trust, and propose a public apology. The purpose is clear and the points are relevant. However, the correction about cleanliness and sewerage is not specific: you do not state what the article said or what the accurate situation is. The proposed response is also somewhat narrow, since an apology to a council member does not clearly explain how the magazine will correct the information for its readers. Giving the accurate details and requesting a correction or clarification in the magazine itself would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the problem, lists corrections, explains their importance, and ends with a suggested response. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “In my view” help the reader follow your points. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Furthermore” introduces another correction, but the cleanliness and sewerage point remains vague, while “Secondly” does not clearly distinguish a new reason from the preceding explanation. The final request and closing also feel abrupt. Use paragraph links that show the relationship between each point, and finish with a direct request for the magazine to publish a correction and confirm its action.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal complaint, including “peak hours,” “impact,” “credibility,” and “readers continue to trust its content.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common vocabulary is attempted. There are, however, several spelling errors, including “mentiioned,” “relaible,” “credibilty,” and “Loooking,” as well as imprecise or awkward expressions such as “ruin the town reputation” and “sewerage disturbance.” “Personal blog” may also be an unsuitable channel for an official correction by a magazine. Proofread carefully and choose more precise collocations, such as “damage the town’s reputation,” “sewerage problems,” and “publish a correction in the magazine.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the explanation beginning “It is necessary that you correct…” and the sentence about the effect on people considering property. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems reduce control. In “which I came to my attention,” the relative clause is incorrectly formed; write “which came to my attention” or “that I read.” The phrase “a town in which I am residing in” repeats the preposition, and “you should do by that by publicly apologizing” has a faulty structure. Capitalisation of “I,” sentence boundaries, and commas after introductory phrases also need attention. Editing these patterns would make your varied sentences more accurate.
