Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I have recently read an article in your magazine that has some false information about my town and I would like you to rectify that article and reprint in your next magazine.
The number of amenities that have been mentioned by the magazine company is way more than actual count. The correct count of schools and colleges is 22 and 10 respectively. yet, the magazine has mentioned it as 28 and 15. This count has been proposed by officials, and they need to reach this goal by 2030.
It is mandatory to guide people about accurate things than providing them with the false information. The international travel magazine has its own reputation and goodwill in the market. If people find these errors, they will stop trusting the magazine. Hence, it will lead to reduce in number of sales of magazine. Simultaneously, people will be mislead with wrong information.
Now, magazine must rectify their mistake and mention the errors from previous magazine in the recent one. Aware the people, and provide them with appropriate information. Magazine staff should be more alert from next time while printing anything. They are required to do a proper research with facts and practical truths than just printing any misleading information.
I hope this matter will be considered as soon as possible and required actions will be taken.
ABC.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you correct the figures for schools and colleges, explain that inaccurate reporting could damage the magazine’s reputation and mislead readers, and recommend correcting the article and improving research. The specific comparison—22 schools and 10 colleges rather than 28 and 15—makes the correction clear. This meets the task well, although some points are less fully developed: the sentence about officials and a 2030 goal is difficult to connect to the current figures, and the proposed response could specify how readers will be notified or how the correction will appear. The letter’s purpose is clear throughout; developing these details and using the requested opening would make the response more complete and polished.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the complaint, gives the corrected information, explains the consequences, and proposes action. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Hence” and “Simultaneously” show how the ideas relate. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “This count has been proposed by officials” does not clearly explain the preceding figures, while “Aware the people” is an abrupt fragment rather than a smoothly connected recommendation. The final paragraph also combines several suggestions without clearly prioritising them. Use explicit references to connect the figures to their source, and group the correction, reader notification, and future fact-checking into a more clearly sequenced proposal.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal complaint, including “rectify,” “accurate,” “reputation,” “misleading information,” and “proper research.” These choices communicate the main concerns, and the reader can understand the intended meaning. Some less common expressions are not used naturally or precisely: “the number of amenities … is way more than actual count” is informal and awkward, “lead to reduce in number of sales” is an inaccurate collocation, and “proposed by officials” does not clearly express what officials have established. “Goodwill in the market” is also less idiomatic here than a direct reference to the magazine’s credibility. Aim for precise, natural collocations and a consistently formal register, especially when describing the figures and their consequences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional sentence “If people find these errors, they will stop trusting the magazine” and the consequence introduced by “Hence.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, “yet” should begin a new sentence with a capital letter, and “it will lead to reduce” has an incorrect verb pattern; use “it will lead to a reduction” or “it will reduce.” “The correct count … is 22 and 10 respectively” also needs clearer grammatical framing, such as “The correct figures are 22 schools and 10 colleges.” The fragment “Aware the people” should be rewritten as a complete sentence. More accurate sentence construction and punctuation would strengthen control.
