Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding of the article that i have recently read, which contained some data about the city and that i believe is incorrect.
The name of the magazine is international travel magazine and it has recently published the article which says that this town does not have any upgraded parks which i believe is the older information. In last six months, there are various things that have been upgraded and the local parks are one of them. The local authorities have installed new playground equipment such as new swings and slides also new water coolers for pupil.
It is important the magazine to corrects the information because readers rely on it to be accurate. If the information given in the article is not changed then people might believe it and make decisions based on that. Moreover, if
people continue to believe that parks are poorly maintained and unsafe for children to play, it could damage the reputation of the local authorities, who are responsible for maintaining those spaces.
The magazine should recheck the published article about the town and they should update the new information to make pupil aware about this. Furthermore, they can send their children to play in the park without any concerns about safety.
I would be happy to provide any further information required.
Regards,
Suman Malhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you correct the claim about the parks, explain that inaccurate reporting may mislead readers and harm the authorities’ reputation, and ask the magazine to review and update its article. The specific improvements—new swings, slides and water coolers—make the correction relevant. This fully covers the core task and begins to support your points, but some parts are less developed than others. For example, the request to update the information is clear, while the practical response could be more precise, such as publishing a correction or contacting the town council to verify details. The point about children being made aware is also not fully explained. More specific development would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening purpose, a paragraph correcting the article, an explanation of why accuracy matters, and a closing request. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help connect related points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The final paragraph shifts from what the magazine should do to what readers or parents can do, so “they” and “their children” are difficult to interpret. The sentence beginning “If people continue to believe…” also breaks across a line after “if,” interrupting the flow. Keep each paragraph focused on one purpose and use explicit references—for example, “the magazine should publish a correction”—to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use adequate vocabulary for the topic, including “installed,” “playground equipment,” “poorly maintained,” “reputation” and “responsible for maintaining.” These choices communicate the main points and show some range beyond basic wording. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions, such as “some data about the city,” “upgraded parks,” “update the new information” and “make pupil aware.” These reduce precision, even though the reader can generally understand your meaning. Aim for natural collocations and more exact terms: for instance, describe the parks as “recently renovated” and ask the editor to “publish a correction.” Also check capitalization of the magazine’s name and the pronoun “I.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which contained some data” and a conditional sentence beginning “If the information given…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “I am writing this letter regarding of,” “In last six months, there are,” and “It is important the magazine to corrects.” These involve prepositions, tense and sentence construction; “the local authorities have installed” would also fit the recent changes more naturally than the present perfect continuous-style time reference used in the original sentence. There are also issues with articles and agreement, as in “make pupil aware.” Review verb patterns after “important,” article use, and consistent past or present-perfect forms. More accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
