Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the task: you identify the inaccurate claim about Kandy, explain that it can create hostility towards the city, and ask the magazine to publish a correction and pay closer attention to accuracy. The specific examples of different religious communities and representation on the city council make the correction relevant. The explanation of why accuracy matters is present, but it could be developed further—for example, by explaining how readers might be misled or how the claim could affect residents and visitors. Your proposed response is also clear, though you could specify an apology or a correction in the next issue. This covers the task well overall, with some ideas less fully extended than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening that states your purpose, a paragraph correcting the article, and a closing request. Phrases such as “To elaborate more” and “Additionally” help signal the movement between ideas, and the reader can follow your main argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and the second paragraph contains several points in a long sequence. The reference in “the mentioned article” is also less natural and precise than a direct reference to the article’s claim. To strengthen progression, separate the correction from its consequences and use clearer links to show how the evidence supports your request. The closing is appropriate, though the final request could be more directly connected to the harm described.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “inaccurate,” “multicultural community,” “harmony,” and “detrimental effect.” These choices communicate the central issue and show an attempt to use language beyond basic vocabulary. However, spelling errors such as “artical,” “recist,” “diverity,” and “misstake” are noticeable, and some expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “invalid facts” and “massive hate towards the city.” These reduce the naturalness and precision of the letter. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose collocations that fit the context, such as “misleading information” and “could foster prejudice against the city.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which was published on your magazine” and a reason clause beginning “as your previous article caused…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the mentioned article state” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “All of these community living” needs a complete verb phrase and plural agreement. The sentence beginning “Kandy is…” also shifts into an unclear construction with “it is bringing.” Review verb forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and make sure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
