Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this to point out some incorrect information about my town which your travel magazine published.

Firstly, I would like to clarify that the article says that in our town there is no tourist attraction which is totally wrong. Because we have many historic temples and beautiful lakes where people can come and know about our culture and history.

Furthermore, it is very important to given correct information because it can affect the tourism in out town. Most of the poeple prefer travel magazine to plan their vacation and when they read this incorrect information about our town they will not come here.

Finally, I would like to suggest you that you can publish a new article or can update the correct information on your website.

Thank you for your time and patience. I hope you will look forward this situation as soon as possible. And if you need any other information I am happy to provide you.

Yours Faithfully,

Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requirements: you correct the claim by naming “historic temples and beautiful lakes,” explain that inaccurate information may discourage visitors, and suggest publishing a new article or updating the website. This gives the letter a clear purpose and a relevant response throughout. The correction is specific enough to challenge the article, but the explanation of the town’s attractions and the importance of accuracy could be developed further—for example, by describing what visitors can experience or noting the effect on local businesses and the magazine’s credibility. Your proposed remedies are appropriate, though you could clarify whether the magazine should also issue a correction or apology. The response covers the task well overall, with some points less fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce the problem, correct the information, explain its impact, and make a suggestion before closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these purposes, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “Finally” make the progression easy to follow. This is a logical structure for a formal letter. However, the repeated sequencing words make some connections feel mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Because we have many historic temples…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding claim. You could improve flow by combining related ideas and using more varied links, such as “In fact” or “As a result.” The closing also shifts abruptly from thanks to a request for action.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and communicates the main points clearly, with relevant phrases such as “tourist attraction,” “historic temples,” “tourism,” and “publish a new article.” You also use a suitably formal opening and closing. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “point out some incorrect information,” “prefer travel magazine,” and “look forward this situation.” There are also spelling errors in “out” and “poeple,” which reduce accuracy. A more precise range would help you express the consequences and requested action more naturally—for instance, referring to the town’s reputation or asking the editor to issue a correction. Overall, meaning remains clear despite these slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including the clause “when they read this incorrect information about our town they will not come here.” The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. “It is very important to given correct information” needs a passive form (“to give” or “for correct information to be given”), while “Because we have…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence fragment. In “I would like to suggest you that you can publish,” the verb pattern is not controlled; use “suggest that you publish” or “suggest publishing.” The closing phrase “I hope you will look forward this situation” also has an incorrect construction. More accurate clause linking and verb patterns would strengthen the range you are attempting.
