Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Harpreet kaur, penning down this epistle to express my concern regarding an internatinal travel magazine which contained incorrect information about my hometown. The information about my hometown is regarding the National park and Government school mentioned is incorrect. The address for both locations is Queen's street but in actual the address is 1589 Elizabeth Street, North York and Postal code is M1K2H9.

It is an essential to provide correct inflormation to public because national park is a tourist attarction. Thus, with the incorrect address individual will not be able to find the exact location.

I would like to request to change the address and some other information about the national park and school. I would like to give some suggestions that the magazine company can highlight the important information such as address, activities which are famous in our town and many more things.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Harpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the incorrect location details, explain that visitors may be unable to find the park, and ask the magazine to correct its information. The specific correction—1589 Elizabeth Street, North York, with the postal code—makes the letter relevant and useful. The explanation of why accuracy matters is clear but brief, and the proposed response is less fully developed: “change the address and some other information” is vague, while the suggestion to highlight activities does not clearly explain how the magazine should verify or correct the existing article. To strengthen the response, specify the exact corrections needed for both the park and school and request a correction or updated version of the article.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, moving from the problem to its importance and then to a request and suggestions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Thus” and “I look forward to hearing from you soon” support the progression. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence is long and combines your introduction with the purpose of the letter, while “I would like to request” followed by “I would like to give some suggestions” repeats the same framing. The reference to “both locations” is understandable but could be clearer by naming the park and school again. More direct transitions and less repeated framing would make the organisation feel more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a formal letter, including “express my concern,” “incorrect information,” “tourist attraction,” and “exact location.” The attempt to use formal language shows some range, although “penning down this epistle” sounds overly ornate and unnatural in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “internatinal,” “inflormation,” and “attarction,” and some word choices are imprecise: “an essential” does not fit the intended meaning, and “highlight the important information” is vague. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but more accurate spelling and natural collocations would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and more developed structures, such as “because national park is a tourist attraction” and “with the incorrect address individual will not be able to find the exact location.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The information … is regarding the National park and Government school mentioned is incorrect” has an awkward sentence structure, and “It is an essential to provide” uses an incorrect article and construction. Articles are also missing in “because national park is a tourist attraction” and before “individual.” Aim for clearer sentence patterns, such as “The article gives the wrong address for the national park and government school,” and check articles and sentence boundaries carefully.
