Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writiing this letter to express my disappointment regarding your recent article about the Halifax City, which contains false information. An article say that our town have the worst transportation service in the globe, because of the frequency of the buses. I read a whole article yesterday, and i got information from it that you went to helifax in the month of april, which usually month of the maintenance of all public services equipments like buses, trains, and other public service vehicles. City publish notice every year before they start doing maintenance. Therefore, they cannont co-op with the bus schedule sometimes.

Moreover, It is extremely significant for magazine to give correct information about everything to the readers, becuase they make decision about things or plan according the information they get from different sources. For this article, it might affects on number of tourist come this year.

Furthermore, Magazine already published this article at all around the world. Therefore, you should publish any notice or press release to solve this mistake.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Your faithfully,

Krinesh Gosai

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you correct the claim about transport by explaining that the visit coincided with April maintenance, explain that readers may make plans based on the article, and recommend a notice or press release. This gives the letter a clear purpose and relevant supporting detail. The explanation of the correction is the strongest part, especially the reference to annual notices and disrupted bus schedules. However, the importance of accuracy and the proposed response are less fully developed: explain more specifically how misinformation could affect visitors and what correction the magazine should publish, such as a revised article or clarification. The response covers the task well overall, but some ideas need fuller support to be more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the complaint, explains the circumstances behind the transport problem, discusses the consequences of inaccurate reporting, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” make the sequence easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however. “For this article” does not clearly link the general point about readers’ decisions to the specific effect on tourism, and “Therefore” is used for a conclusion that would benefit from a more explicit explanation. The opening and closing are appropriate, though the salutation and sign-off should be consistent in formality. Overall, organisation is clear, with some room to make links more precise and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “disappointment,” “frequency,” “maintenance,” “public services,” and “press release.” These choices help communicate the issue and its proposed remedy. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision: “the Halifax City,” “in the globe,” “co-op with the bus schedule,” and “publish this article at all around the world.” Spelling errors such as “writiing,” “helifax,” “becuase,” and “cannont” are also noticeable. Some wording is repetitive, particularly “information” and “article.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the service as “the worst in the world” and say that buses “cannot run to schedule” during maintenance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a longer explanation of the maintenance period. The main message remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “An article say” should be “An article says,” “our town have” should be “our town has,” and “it might affects” should be “it might affect.” The sentence beginning “I read a whole article yesterday” also becomes difficult to follow because its clauses are joined without clear grammatical control. Review subject–verb agreement, modal verb patterns, and sentence boundaries, while retaining the attempts at complex sentences.
