Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding friends with similar opinions is supported by a vague reference to a 'survey,' which lacks depth. The second body paragraph touches on decision-making but could be further extended with concrete examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent, but the overall depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.0, as the ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the first hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To put everything in nutshell.' However, some of these are used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'On the first hand' is non-standard; 'In nutshell' is missing an article). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed due to these minor errors in cohesive markers. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall management of cohesion could be more flexible.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'integral part' and 'shed light upon.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'opposition people' instead of 'others' or 'opposing views,' and 'widening the era of thinking' which is imprecise. While communication is not impeded, the range is limited, and the errors in word choice prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a same way,' 'a friends'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., unnecessary periods before 'because' and 'However'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the writer should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect preposition usage.
