Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both viewpoints and providing a personal opinion. However, the opinion in the conclusion is somewhat vague; while you state that people should choose friends 'wisely,' you do not explicitly state which of the two perspectives you favor or if you believe a balance is best. The ideas are relevant, but the development of the second viewpoint could be more detailed. For instance, the example regarding political arguments is a good start, but it could be expanded to better illustrate how this specifically improves critical thinking.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing. For example, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'the people' is used without a clear antecedent. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple additive connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'daunting situation,' 'contrasting opinions,' and 'support system.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'keen of talking' (should be 'keen on talking') and 'rate of conflicts... would be lessen' (should be 'would be lessened'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Choosing wise friends play,' 'companions shares,' 'Every individual have'). There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'a companions' and 'on his friend mind.' While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the overall meaning of your arguments. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that nouns and articles are used consistently throughout your sentences.
