Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the discussion. The ideas are introduced but remain underdeveloped; for instance, the example regarding the friend seeking advice is vague and lacks a clear connection to the broader argument. The conclusion is also incomplete, as the final sentence trails off without finishing the thought. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow of the text. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your ideas are linked more smoothly using a wider variety of cohesive devices, while ensuring that all sentences are complete and logically connected.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'same point of view' and 'good way'. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'respect opinions' (should be 'respecting opinions') and 'disagreeing between companions' (should be 'disagreement between friends'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate. Focus on using synonyms to avoid repetition and improve the overall flow of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is has been', 'choosing friends... have'), article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'a friend is asking for an advice' contains an unnecessary article before an uncountable noun. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and pluralization. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences will significantly improve your score.
