Student answer (Band 6.5)

Several individual believe that choosing a friends with same mindset or having same opinions is better for individuals. While, others argue that it is better to have friends, who sometimes disagree or have different viewpoints. I will discuss both the argument. But, I personally think that it is better to have friends, who sometime disagree with our decisions.

On the one hand, there are few reasons why people think that it is better to have friends with same mindset. First and foremost, making impossible to possible. When something person decided to do or made their decision and for that task their friends and family members support, that task become easy to achieve. For instance, choosing a stream after high school is one of the important decision for person. If he/she decided to choose medical profession, and friends as well as family members support them, even knowing this stream is not for his/her. But with support and motivation person able succeed.

On the other hand, it is advantage to have a friend that sometimes disagree. The main reason behind that a friend is using their own brain and thinking as a individual not only this but also able to weightage own opinion. Moreover, sometime person took decisions with their heart and did not think with brain at that time, friends who sometime disagree with our choose are gave us a chance to think again before making a final decision.

In my opinion, it is better to have a friend, who sometimes disagree with us depending on time, and reason behind choose.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments provided, such as the example of choosing a stream after high school, are relevant but lack depth and clarity in their explanation. The reasoning regarding why friends who disagree are beneficial is also slightly underdeveloped, relying on repetitive phrasing rather than a robust exploration of the benefits of diverse perspectives. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your supporting points with more detailed explanations and clearer examples that directly link back to the core arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'not only this but also able to weightage own opinion', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'making impossible to possible' instead of 'making the impossible possible' and 'weightage own opinion' instead of 'weigh their own opinions'. You also struggle with word forms, such as using 'choose' as a noun instead of 'choice'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention to the language rather than the content. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic terms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Several individual believe'), article usage (e.g., 'choosing a friends'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'The main reason behind that a friend is using...'). These errors are noticeable and sometimes impede the flow of reading, although they do not completely prevent the message from being understood. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help raise your score.
