Student answer (Band 7.0)

it is widely acknowledged that it is always better to select friend who have the same opinion, while others are of the view that friends should not always have same perspectives and it should be varied. This essay will discuss both views and why I believe that having numerous views can help individuals.

On the one hand, the main benefit from having exact view is a better bonding in friendship. If individuals are having the same view, then they are highly likely to have lasting friendship. As a result, they can share their idea very freely, which not only help them to increase their bond but also to become successful. For instance, according to a research, it has been proved that friends, who are business partners and share the same ideas grows business on a large scale compared to others who have opposite views. Hence, it is sometimes advantageous.

On the other hand, having various views can help people to improve their knowledge. When there are different views presented at that moment people come to know about various perspectives, which they are unaware of. For example, while developing a product, scientists always host a conference with leaders from different sectors, which benefits them by knowing the area of improvements. Therefore, the government authorities always host meetings while doing some inventions. In addition, it also plays a crucial role in higher studies when students are required to do research because different view can help get wider area covered.

To sum up, although same views offer some advantages to make business successful, I believe individuals with different views are better as it can improve knowledge which not only helps scientist in research but also students in higher studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of business partnerships and scientific collaboration. However, the development of the first viewpoint is slightly more limited compared to the second. The essay maintains a consistent position throughout, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments for both sides are balanced in depth and that the examples provided are more specific and fully integrated into the argument rather than just mentioned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'As a result', and 'In addition' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'perspectives', 'advantageous', and 'inventions'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'host a conference' (which is slightly unnatural in this context) and 'grows business' (which should be 'grow their businesses'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a research', 'the government authorities') and subject-verb agreement ('friends... grows business'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where commas are missing or used incorrectly. The complexity of the sentences is present, but the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic article usage and ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects in number.
