It is often said that after family, a friend who helps in building a character. Opinions are divided on whether a friend should always align with the opinion, whereas others arugue that sometimes its healthy to disagree on certain things/situation. In this essay we will disucss both the views and later personal opinion will be presented.

On one hand, an individual get along with a other person because their thoughts matches. It is often because they have similar personalities. Therefore, they get along quite easily. For instance, an alcoholic will have a friend who always agrees on getting more drunk. Due to that, an alcoholic will have a friend that always agreeing on the same opinion. Moreover, a vegitarian person will easily become friend with other vegitarian, the reason being their opinions aligns. It is an unsaid rule, an individual gets more close to the person when thier actions and thought-process matches.

On the other hand, contradicting opinions are very important to make progress in life. People says that a true friend always says what is right and wrong instead of agreeing on everything. To conclude, a friend should, agree when its right and also diagree when in wrong. For stronger friendship, honesty and giving right advise is important, rather than being pleasing a friend. Friends who argue, often have strong and deep friendship.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of an alcoholic friend is repetitive and does not fully explore the nuance of why people might prefer friends with similar opinions. The arguments are relevant but could be extended with more sophisticated reasoning to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the position, but the overall depth of the discussion remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are repetitive, such as the repeated mention of 'agreeing on everything', which makes the progression of ideas feel somewhat mechanical rather than fluid.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'arugue', 'disucss', 'vegitarian', 'thier') and some awkward collocations like 'pleasing a friend' instead of 'pleasing friends'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific language, the range is limited, and the repetition of basic phrases like 'right and wrong' and 'agreeing on everything' restricts the score. More sophisticated synonyms and precise word choices are needed to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('an individual get along', 'their opinions aligns') and incorrect article usage ('a other person'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for common slips.
