Student answer (Band 6.5)

Advice from a friend can become an essential part of our life path. Whereas some individuals argue that it is excellent to select a friend who always agrees with your thoughts and others mention that make a friend who sometimes stops you on your certain decision.

As far as my concerned, I believe we required both types of friends, such as, a friend who support on every step in your life, along with a friend who pushes back from the wrong path in your life. In this essay, we are going to discuss both views with a relevant example that helps us to argue clearly with both statements.

On the one hand, Life feels motivated and achievable when you have a friend who supports you and stays with you at every step until you achieve your end goal. A friend sometimes can become pivotal in a case where you will be impossible for you. For example, an IAS officer in INDIA where he share his story, mentioning that he failed in the UPSC exam (a government exam to become an IAS officer) in all his attempts. However, his friend believed that he could achieve this and paid all his expenses during his tough time.

On the other hand, sometimes you need a friend who can stop doing your favorable decisions because he wanted to save from upcoming threats or problems. For example, father is a big friend of yours who denied in your certain decision and give suggestions so that he does not want to fail you that he has already experienced in his .prior life. Moreover, some friends can stand against on our step that does not means they are opponents; they are always thinking of your well-being.

As far as I am concerned, that a friend should support and walk on every path, however, he must not greed of our wealth and our benefits of results. In addition, a friend who not supporting your step sometimes he or she can be jealous which are considered as enemy not friend.

In conclusion, I believe that friends can be supportive and sometimes can be on your against on that period, you have to be smart to find the actual means of the matter with your friend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The example of the IAS officer is relevant but lacks sufficient detail to fully illustrate the point about 'always agreeing' friends. The second body paragraph regarding 'disagreeing' friends is slightly confused by the inclusion of a father as a 'friend', which weakens the argument's focus. While the position is clear, the explanation of why one might prefer one type of friend over the other could be more nuanced. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition 'As far as my concerned' is grammatically incorrect and impacts the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection between being 'smart' and 'finding the actual means of the matter' is vague. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to better link the supporting examples to the main topic sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'stops you on your certain decision', 'denied in your certain decision', and 'on your against'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly opaque. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'friend'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to interpersonal relationships and decision-making processes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('we required', 'he share his story'), incorrect preposition usage ('against on our step'), and awkward sentence construction ('a friend who not supporting your step sometimes he or she can be jealous'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure often feels clunky. While the meaning is usually clear, the density of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
