Student answer (Band 6.5)

Friends also play a crucial role in shaping one's life. This is why some people believe that select friends who have similar opinions as you, whilst others opine that disagreements can be more beneficial in friendship. I will discuss both opinions along with why I believe friendships with both types of friends could be a great choice.

On one hand, people often relate to those friends who corelates to the ideas as it can improve relationship ands competabiltiy between people. Moreover, Supportive friends can help to encourage someone when they face down fall in their personal or professional life. For example, a student who join sports because of their friend circle can adopt healthy habits and be motivated by receiving support from them.

On the other hand, disagreements with friends lead to thinking of such scenarios that are concerning and need deep clarification. This approach can develop communication skills by bringing more ideas into the group. For instance, a friend who disagrees with others about going on a trip during exams can actually help their mates not be distracted during the important time of school.

Although both scenarios are beneficial but combination of such friendships can help in making friendship more reasonable and mature. These types of relations stay longer and are more secure for life, as one would be there for better advice if needed.

Overall, it is great to have friends who agree with others in any situation, but opposite beliefs are considerably more successful. However, friends should respect others' limitations and sensitive issues such as religious beliefs and social images.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of support from like-minded friends and the growth potential from differing perspectives. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of how disagreements improve communication skills is brief and could be further extended with more specific reasoning or a more detailed example. The position is clear throughout, but the conclusion is slightly contradictory, as it initially suggests a combination is best, then shifts to stating that opposite beliefs are 'considerably more successful'. Strengthening the logical flow of your argument would improve the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Although both scenarios are beneficial but combination of such friendships...'. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the phrase 'relate to those friends who corelates to the ideas'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'compatibility' (though misspelled as 'competabiltiy') and 'clarification'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'corelates to the ideas' and 'down fall'. Spelling errors like 'corelates' (correlates) and 'competabiltiy' (compatibility) also occur. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('friends who corelates', 'a student who join') and article usage ('during the important time of school'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Although both scenarios are beneficial but combination of such friendships...'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in basic grammar rules would be beneficial.
