Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Having the friends of same opinion is not lesser than a boon, we can't expect even the siblings born from the same mother to have the same mindset and opinion that ours so certainly it is the fortune that gets you such friends. With the same frequncy, opinions, mindset, it is never difficult to explain your thought and is perceived in similar way at the other end too.
When we look at the other aspect of it, people with difference in opinion bring a different perspective on the table that may be proven as more meaningful when life throws some tests at you. Sometimes, we are not able to see things in such a way that may assess the matter completely, however, the person with different viewpoint may take our attention towards the known points that we have not even considered to be true in that case. This gives a 360 degree view of all problems.
In my opinion it is better to have friends with different opinion so he can share their perspective and it gives us the ability to think from altogether a different view. When we have two opinions or two assessments of a situation, we can better conclude a situation. Moreover, it is always good to have a true friend who truly tells you what he thinks rather tha having a brainless person who only nods head in your favour without having a unique viewpoint of his own.
Such friends with unique perspective always bring a different dimension to your life and adds value even if this is not something positive but atleast they draw your attention towards something you may not have ever though of.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the argument regarding the '360 degree view' of problems. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the initial paragraph is slightly unfocused, focusing more on the rarity of like-minded friends rather than the implications of such friendships. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph focuses strictly on the analytical aspect of the prompt rather than anecdotal or philosophical musings. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'When we look at the other aspect of it', 'In my opinion', and 'Moreover'. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'With the same frequncy' at the start of the first paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the benefits of agreement to the advantages of disagreement, and finally to the author's stance. Improved variety in linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'boon', 'dimension', and '360 degree view'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Having the friends of same opinion is not lesser than a boon' and 'perceived in similar way at the other end'. There is also a spelling error ('frequncy'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, it lacks the precision and natural collocation required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the friends of same opinion' (missing article), 'that ours' (incorrect pronoun reference), and 'tha having' (typo). Some sentences are slightly run-on or lack necessary articles, which affects the overall fluency. While the meaning is never obscured, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching the 7.0 band. Greater attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy significantly.
