Student answer (Band 6.0)

To have a good friend in life is the best mentor. However, some time they do agree on our decision even it's a good or not. Whereas some guide us for the better option. I personally think that to have some one who have different mindset is better.

To begin with, To have a mate with same opinion is good. In term of friendship if someone has same vibe as you are more enjoyable company. For fun, travel and study together this is the best to have someone with same chaos. For example, A student like to study finance and his buddy have same interest. So they can enjoy each other company. Same for the other routine activities such as gym, play sport and video games.

On the other side, Some people think that to have a friend who can give proper guidance without being agree on decision you made and provide solution are better in term of real life survival. For instance, a friend want to buy a video game and ask to his friend about it. That friend gives him suggestion to do not buy gadget because that can impact on his study. It means if anyone in a life who can save you from going to on path which has negative effect in your life, even though standing opposite to you can be helpful for long term.

Finally, both the statement are right at some point in life. For enjoyment and chaos its better to have same feelings whereas some people not in your favor but they want to guide you for the best in your decision making.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, such as the student studying finance or the friend advising against buying a video game, these points could be expanded further to fully explore the implications of each perspective. The conclusion is a bit brief and could more effectively synthesize the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more depth and nuance rather than just stating the points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'On the other side', and 'Finally' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'that friend', 'the other') is consistently clear will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'mentor', 'guidance', and 'decision making'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'same chaos' or 'without being agree on decision'. These errors occasionally make the text feel unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and idiomatic expressions related to social relationships and personal development, and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they frequently contain grammatical errors, such as 'someone who have different mindset' (should be 'has') and 'if anyone in a life who can save you' (which is a fragment). There are also persistent issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your message. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
