IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is ongoing debate regarding to chouse appropriate friends. There are dual opinions. A group of people think that friends with same judgement and prefrences are better while other argued that it is fevorable to have friends who sometimes have contrary point of view than them. Before I am giving my opinion, both the viewpoints would be discussed in the ensuing paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

Discussing the former view, suppoters believe that, people who have same mindsets or same opinions are sharing strong friendship bond. Due to such similarities there are less chances of arguments and clashes. Individuals can get more support to implement their ideas and strategies. They are always encouraged by such friends. As a result, people can make effective decisions; moreover, owing to having same point of view, a person can better understand the situation. They prefer to console them rather than blame them. For instance, it has been observed that in a friends group among all the members two or three make sub group who have same opinions Additionally, in any debate or fight they are always take stand for same

party. consequently, among them arguments are reduces and friendship bond become more strong.

However, other proponents have their own opinions. To begin with, they believe that a friend who sometime has a contrary opinion to theirs is better. Such friends guide them properly in difficult situations. People can clear their doubts regrading decision-making. a person can make people realise their mistakes. consequently mistakes are reduced and life become more efficient. people are able to see the other side. For example, sometimes people can not recognise their mistake until someone show them the other side of the scenario.

To conclude, People prefer to choose friends who have same opinions because of support, motivation and convenience. Although having friend who have opposite perspectives can make people realise their mistakes, increase reliability and creditability, I firmly believe such friends are more reliable and appropriate for life.
