Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate regarding topic of choosing friends depends on their opinions. It is frequently argued that it is a wise choice to choose friends who have a similar point of view, whereas others contend that friends with contrasting views are better. Prior to my stance, this essay will discuss both perspectives in the ensuing paragraphs with appropriate examples and followed by my opinion in further segments.
The major viewpoint in favor of choosing people with similar interests as friends is comfort. By sharing individuals' thoughts and ideas without hesitation, even if it is not meaningful, builds public speaking skill as well as self-esteem. As a result, their bond and understanding level significantly increase, which helps them to count on them in emergency situations. Moreover, friends with matching both goals and travelling plans get multiple benefits from their trips, which will help them to relax at certain times and come back with enhanced efficiency. To cite an example, survey in British Newspaper in 26th July, 2025, mentioned the results of group activity with same interest people perform well in their personal lives along with professional lives.
In regards to different personalities friend group increase creativity amongst them significantly. People with diverse opinions have a lot to say about their thinking behind the ideas, which boosts confidence of the other friends to take a stand even is conversation converts into a debate. Consequently, this approach is a Competitive spirit, that helps to generate various possibilities behind the small idea.
By way of conclusion, although when there is an argument between friends if creates clashes, I firmly believe similarity in thought-process of people within a same friend circle has multiple benefits such as lending a hand when in need, supporting each other, and encouraging peers to perform well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph attempts to link 'similar opinions' to 'public speaking skills' and 'travelling plans,' which feels slightly tangential and lacks a strong logical connection to the core argument of friendship. The second paragraph on 'diverse opinions' is better focused but remains brief. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is clear, but the essay would benefit from more robust examples rather than the vague reference to a 'British Newspaper' survey.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Consequently,' and 'By way of conclusion' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'even if it is not meaningful, builds public speaking skill,' where the subject of the verb 'builds' is ambiguous. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be smoother to ensure a more natural reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contrasting views' and 'enhanced efficiency,' which is positive. However, there are some issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'this approach is a Competitive spirit' and 'if creates clashes' (likely a typo for 'it creates'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'regarding topic of choosing' (missing article), 'friend group increase' (subject-verb agreement), and 'even is conversation converts' (incorrect phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these minor errors occasionally interrupts the flow of the text. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately.
