Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Friends are crucial part of our lives, and many times we may or may not have same beliefs. Few people think it is good while others condemn this thought. This essay discusses both point of views with a conclusionary note at the end.
On one hand, if you have companions who have same observations for things like you means you are like-minded then you can motivate each other in a positive manner, instead of indulging in arguments. For instance, if i like going to the gym to stay active and my friend circle is also gym-enthusiast, who loves to keep themselves active, then we can push each other to do better and touch milestones in our lives. Thus, it has progressive impact on you as you push your limits.
On the other hand, if you have different perspective towards life then you indulge in constructive discussions and your perception broadens. For example, if Ram knows about a movie that shows half reality without knowing and his mate Jack corrects him up and spills the facts, then it is not a negative thing but it would result in constructive argument. Thus, Ram can save himself from being part of a negative propaganda movie.
In my opinion, you should have friends who have both approaches and mindsets so to never get misguided. For instance, you can not be fooled by not knowing the other side of the coin. Thus, it is not bad either way and have both agreeing and disagreeing companions in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The examples provided, such as the gym scenario and the movie anecdote, are relevant but lack depth and sophistication. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the analysis remains at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the implications of these friendships in a broader social or psychological context rather than relying on simple, personal illustrations. The conclusion is present but could be more effectively integrated to summarize the main points more robustly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Thus' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas feels more natural would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'like-minded', 'constructive discussions', and 'perspective'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'conclusionary note' (which is not standard English) and 'half reality'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range and more sophisticated control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('Friends are crucial part'), subject-verb agreement issues ('if you have companions who have same observations... means you are'), and awkward phrasing ('if Ram knows about a movie that shows half reality without knowing'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with grammatical precision will significantly improve your score.
