Student answer (Band 6.0)

It's better to have friends who have the same opinion as yours while some argue that what's best is that they disagree with you some times. In my opinion It's best to have a friend who does not agree with you all the time.

People who believe that having a friend who have the same thinking as yours is the best, because when our thoughts are same we can achieve better results and enjoys each other company more. The companion should always stays by your side and help you in making any decision. For instance, if you want to start a business, he should encourage you and help you in establishing the business.

On the other hand, people who thinks that sometime friends should show their disagreement where it is necessary, are the real ones. They believe that a true companion is one who supports you in what is good for you. Everything is not worth agreeing with. He should help you in making right decisions. If you are wrong somewhere, he must tell you and teach you for your betterment. For example, If you are thinking of not taking higher education your friend should be the one telling you to re-think as gaining knowledge is necessary. you can't survive in the world if you only have limited vision.

In my perspective, having someone besides you ,who can guide you what's wrong for you and what's not, is a real blessing. There should be someone who can stop you from destroying yourself.

To conclude, both of the opinions are right in their own way. but I agree with having someone who don't agree with you in all of your doings is the must to have.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a brief example for the first view (starting a business), the second view is supported by a more general example regarding education. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your points with more depth and specific, illustrative examples. The conclusion is clear, but the overall structure of the arguments could be more balanced to ensure a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there is a lack of more sophisticated linking words or referencing. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of cohesive devices would help the essay read more naturally and improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'companion', 'betterment', and 'limited vision'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'same thinking' instead of 'same mindset' or 'same opinions'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('a friend who have', 'people who thinks'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'In my opinion It's'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and attempt to use a wider variety of complex structures with greater precision.
