Student answer (Band 6.0)

Friends play an important role in individual's life. While some people believe that we need to choose those person as a friend whos opinion match with us to avoid conflicts in friendship. Whereas others say that it is better to choose those friends who disagree with us to have a different perspective. In my opinion, it is benificial to having those freinds, who disagree with us occasionaly. This essay will discuss both the view points followed by my opinion.

On the one side, it is better to select those people as a friend who always agree with us to make friendship more stronger. To elaborate, in friendship we share some small tiffs and misconceptions. If both friends have the similar opinion then they can avoid a conflicts in between friends. Moreover, some people have a ego and they are erogant. They think they are always right and their opinion always correct. This type of people also prefer to select those friend whos thoughts and opinion match to them.

On the other hand, some people select those friends who shows different perspective about perticular thing or sometimes disagree with them to have a other view. To expound, if our friend oppose sometimes than we get to know about other view. That might be more beneficial then our original idea. For example, when I got a permenant recidency of Canada. At that time I had set up my own physiotherapy clinic in India. Therefore, I was thinking to live in India. But my friend suggested me to choose Canada to have better lifestyle and opportunity. Than I moved to Canada. Now I realised that was my good decision.

In my opinion, we should choose those friends who has a diffrent perspective about life and who disagree with us sometimes.

To conclude, although selecting those friend who has a same opinion can avoid conflicts and make friendship more stronger. Yet getting an other viewpoint and better perspective, some people choose those friends who oppose them sometimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of avoiding conflict versus gaining new perspectives. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'ego' and 'arrogant' people is a bit underdeveloped and could have been linked more clearly to the benefits of like-minded friends. The personal example regarding the move to Canada is well-integrated and supports the argument effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides more depth and analysis rather than just stating the points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one side', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To expound' or 'Than I moved to Canada'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'misconceptions', 'perspective', and 'beneficial', but there are also frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'benificial', 'freinds', 'occasionaly', 'perticular', 'permenant recidency'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and work on using more precise collocations to express their ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('those person as a friend whos opinion match', 'some people have a ego', 'those friends who shows'), and incorrect article usage. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization and verb forms, to ensure more error-free sentences.
