Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 210 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While both sides of the argument are mentioned, the discussion lacks depth and specific examples. The conclusion is incomplete and does not fully summarize the argument. Due to the under-length and the lack of sufficient supporting detail for the points raised, the response does not fully address all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'In conclusion', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. For example, 'Another, some of the things...' is an awkward transition. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of the argument. Paragraphing is present but the ideas within them are not well-connected.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'similear' instead of 'similar', 'explorer' instead of 'explore', and 'worn' instead of 'warn'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. The student relies on basic phrasing, which hinders the ability to convey nuanced arguments regarding the nature of friendship.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('if your friend have same choice'), article usage, and sentence structure ('This type of friends are rare, they just showed you...'). The range of structures is limited, with a reliance on simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are usually inaccurate, leading to confusion for the reader.
