Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few people think that it a a good to choose friends who have the same viewpoints as them. others believe that its better to have friends who's viewpoints are not same as them. I believe that you should have friends whose opinion differs from yours as this will provide you with challenges and help you learn and grow personally and professionally. I will discuss both the views and give reasons for my argument in the below Paragraphs.

one one hand, different opinions provides you with the challenges that helps you to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Moreover, you feel excitement in arguments if they differ and motivates you to indulge in it. Further, different thoughts give you different perspectives of life and which will aid you in dealing with different problems in a different way. For example, in my office during lunch time I enjoy the talking as most people thoughts differ than mine.

on the other hand, having friend who have same viewpoints is also an advantage as you find comfort and feel secure with them. There comes a time in your life when you value security over challenges and this is what you thrive for at that time. For example, when you express your concern about something bad to someone and they respond with the same thoughts it gives you a great relief.

To Conclude, in my opinion you should have friend who challenges you and motivates you to grow by providing you different viewpoints rather than choosing friends who have same opinions who provide you with comfort and security.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of intellectual growth versus the comfort of shared perspectives. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding office lunch conversations is quite brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples with more specific detail or hypothetical scenarios to better illustrate your points. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall development remains at a basic level, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'on the one hand', 'moreover', and 'to conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'and which will aid you'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall management of cohesion could be more sophisticated and varied to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'viewpoints', 'perspectives', and 'security', but the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'indulge in it' (referring to arguments) and 'most people thoughts differ'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items and ensure that your word choices are more precise and natural in the context of the discussion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'it a a good', 'its better', 'friends who's viewpoints', and 'different opinions provides'. These errors are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters at the start of sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction to ensure that your complex structures are accurate.
