Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that choice of friends with has become a matter considerable debate in recent years. While some people contend that having friends with similar perspectives is more better some times, others maintain that having agemates who occassionally disagree with them is quite fruitful for them. From my perspective, although both viewpoints have certain merits, I firmly believe friends with different opinions is great opportunity, that allow them to learn different ideas and make better decision.

On the one hand, one of the compelling argument in favour choosing friends with the same interest is that fewer conflicts. This can be attributed largely to the fact that there would be less chances of misunderstanding if they have same ideas and interest. In practical terms, It leads to the strong relationship. Consequently, it would lead to friendship more peaceful and comfortable. which can substantial impact on their growth. For instance, two friends who have similar views about lifestyle or career choices may encourage each other instead of questioning their decisions.

Another significant consideration is that sometimes disagree with friend. This is particularly important because disagreement can expose the different perspectives. If this trend continues, it could potentially result in encouraging them to reconsider their own points and become open-minded. It is worth acknowledging that choosing friends with same decisions. despite this concern, I would argue that teammates who have distinct ideas, as the long-term benefits in their future career.

In conclusion, although choosing friends with similar viewpoints should not be overlooked, i remain convinced that agemates with different opinions. This largely due to, it allow to become open-minded that would be significantly beneficial for their professional life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a clear explanation for why people prefer similar friends, the second body paragraph is less coherent, particularly the final sentence which is a fragment and lacks a clear connection to the previous point. The conclusion is also slightly underdeveloped, as the final sentence is grammatically incomplete and fails to fully synthesize the argument. To improve, ensure that every point is fully explained with clear logical links and that the conclusion provides a comprehensive summary of the main arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic logical progression. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Another significant consideration', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'This is particularly important because...' in the second paragraph does not clearly link to the preceding sentence. Additionally, there are issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion, such as the phrase 'This largely due to, it allow to become open-minded', which is disjointed and hinders the flow of ideas. More careful proofreading of sentence connections would improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'more better' (a double comparative), 'agemates' (which is not standard in this context), and 'fewer conflicts' used as a noun phrase rather than a full clause. There are also spelling errors such as 'occassionally'. While the student attempts to use some academic vocabulary like 'compelling argument' and 'substantial impact', the overall control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'friends with different opinions is great opportunity'), missing articles, and incomplete sentences (e.g., 'This largely due to, it allow to become open-minded'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several sentences ending prematurely or containing unnecessary full stops. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be highly beneficial.
