Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some people emphasize that having friends that have the same opinions as of them is better, others are of the opinion that it is good to have friends who have different mentality. I support the later view because they always gives a good advice and are more likely to be with you in your good or bad times.

On the one hand various factors are there why a section of society advocates that having friends who always agree with you on all points is better. Firstly, if your friend is always agree with you then there is a less chances of a fight between you; as a result, you may have a healthy friendship for a long time.

On the other hand, it is often argued by some that it is crucial to have friends who have different opinions and I also favour this. The first argument is that having friends with a different opinions proves a boon because that friend always gives a good and beneficial advice. Apart from that, sometimes if you are doing something wrong in your life then your friend might be disagree with you at that point and he will give you a right advice. Besides that, a friend with a different opinion always stands with you in your good or bad times.

I conclusion, although people are divided on different opinions. I firmly believe that it is beneficial to have friends who have different opinions because they will always helps you to make a good decision.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'less chances of a fight' is a valid point but remains underdeveloped. The explanation for why friends with different opinions are beneficial is repetitive, as the text mentions 'good advice' multiple times without providing concrete examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with specific scenarios or real-world examples to demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Apart from that' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the use of 'the later view' (should be 'latter'). Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which supports the flow of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'good advice' and 'different opinions', which are repeated throughout the text. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'different mentality' (a better choice would be 'different mindset' or 'different perspectives') and 'proves a boon' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'they always gives' (should be 'give') and 'your friend might be disagree' (should be 'might disagree'). Additionally, there are errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'a less chances' and 'in your good or bad times'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and practice with verb forms.
