IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Friends are best part of our life. we can share our emotions and feelings with them. Some people believe that it is best way to have friends who have same opinions but other think that having friends as different views are more beneficial. Both ideas have advantages, but I believe that friends can sometimes disagree with us.
On the one hand, having friends with similar opinions can make relationships easier. People are more likely to understand each other and enjoy the same activities. They may also avoid arguments because they share similar views on important issues. For example, friends who enjoy the same hobbies can easily spend their free time together.
On the other hand, friends who disagree with us can help us learn new things. They can show us different ways of thinking and help us understand other points of view. A good friend can also tell us when we are wrong, which can help us make better decisions. For instance, if I make a poor choice, I would prefer a friend who honestly gives me advice rather than someone who always agrees with me.
In my opinion, it is better to have friends who sometimes disagree with us. Although having similar interests is important, different opinions can make friendships more interesting and help us grow as people.
