Student answer (Band 6.0)
Friends play an indispensable role in the person's life. Few argue that it is favorable to choose companions who thinks like them, while other reckon individual should make friends who sometimes see situation differently than them. This essay will shed light on the both statements, and give my opinion on them.
On the one hand, some believe that we should make friends with people who share similar interest and choices. This could boost their confidence and make them independent since they think they always making right decision. Some young adults love to have a buddy who agree with him or her, even in the wrong or fatal decision. For example, a report by the Indian Express stated that over 80% of adults in India who are addicted to drugs, were convinced to take drug by their mates. Therefore, I am completely disagree with the statement of making friends with same interest and thinking.
On the other hand, other suggest that it would be beneficial to have some friends who sometimes disagree with ones decisions or selections.
If they make any decision that halt their progress and career growth, their friends become boon for them. As they would able to give realistic and attainable suggestion rather than focusing on something unrealistic from their personal experiences. For instance, having a companion who has more life experience than other, would able to give better advice. Thus, I am completely agree with this notion of making friend who sometimes thinks more realistic rather than agreeing with all decisions.
In conclusion, Although disagreement are common in the friendship, but few individuals still prefer to make friends who think similarly. In my opinion, humans must have mates who sometimes disagree with them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of peers on decision-making and the value of constructive disagreement. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example regarding drug addiction is a bit extreme and not fully linked to the broader concept of 'similar opinions,' and the second body paragraph relies on somewhat repetitive phrasing. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on general statements. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical errors in sentence structure and some awkward transitions. For instance, the transition between the example and the conclusion in the first body paragraph feels abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression could be smoother with more varied linking words and better control over sentence-level cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable,' 'boon,' and 'realistic,' which is positive. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I am completely disagree' instead of 'I completely disagree' and 'make friends with same interest' instead of 'similar interests.' These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of collocations and refining word forms would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('companions who thinks,' 'individual should make') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors, such as the unnecessary comma in the conclusion ('Although disagreement are common in the friendship, but...'). The errors are frequent but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures.
