Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this busy life having friends is a blessing. Some people claims that it is better to have friends who think same and have same viewpoints but the other part of society believes it is good to have friends who have different mindset about things. I will discuss both sides of this notion in subsequent paragraphs and will provide my opinion in conclusion.

On the one side, friends who always have same thinking are better partner and that reduces the risk of conflicts in friendship. Nowadays its very important to have friends so we can share our good and and time with them and but if our thinking does not match that could create in friendship sometimes. So it often seen two friends with same level of mind are comfortable with each other and that kind of friendship is beneficial where two friends do business together., so they take better decision without arguments.

On the other side, some people think opposite mindset people are best match as they can learn from each other. Sometimes a person need to take opinion from other person to explore the different angel of the situation and for that other friend should be with different level of thinking. Different opinions create more solutions to every problem so its always better to have more ideas rather than having one. For example, in a problematic situation each friend will think differently and that help them to come out of that situation easily.

In conclusion, although many people believe that friends should have same opinions in order to have less arguments but I opine that, having friends with different thought are more beneficial as they think differently and provide solutions which we can not think.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the reduction of conflict for the first view and the benefit of diverse problem-solving for the second. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are repetitive and lack depth or specific, illustrative examples. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete scenarios. Your position is consistent throughout, which is a strength, but the overall development of ideas remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one side' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'that could create in friendship sometimes' where the noun being referred to is missing. Additionally, some sentences are linked awkwardly with 'and but', which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words would help the essay read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'viewpoints', 'beneficial', and 'problematic'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'same level of mind' instead of 'like-minded' or 'same mindset', and 'different angel' instead of 'different angle'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on simple, repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Some people claims') and missing articles ('take opinion from other person'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and unnecessary commas. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid confusion.
