Student answer (Band 6.0)

Everybody have different views on what types of friends or friendship that would like to be friends with, whether it is friends that agrees with each other or friends that do not agree on everything.

Firstly,it is a god thing to have friends that you agree on everything because having friends that you have same opinion or views as just reduce the fightings or arguements on important or relevants matters such as politics, social media, history and so on. Even when going for events,it good to have friends that share the same idea with you, that would like to go to these types of event with you such as concerts, raves, watching movies and so on.

Secondly,it is better you have friends that you do not agree on everything whether it is politics, news, jobs or educational backgrounds and so on. Having different views on such matters can be a learning ground for you,as as an individuals as to certain things or issues you might not have a better view or understanding of the issue. For example,in my homecountry which is Nigeria,My and I do not agree on every matter such as the news, politics, crime, social media or even events. That does not mean we do not like each other,we see it as understanding each other views and we have different mindsets to these issues.

In conclusion,my personal opinion on this is that,i agree with having friends that we disagree sometimes on certain issues,it helps us as friends and individuals to grow and that we have different views does not mean that we are enemies.Because having friends that agrees on the same views,do not make them grow because they will not see the world differently and be stagant with a narrow mind and always think their views are right.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of reduced conflict for the first view and personal growth for the second. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'reduced fightings' is a bit simplistic, and the example from Nigeria is a good start but could be expanded to better illustrate the benefits of diverse opinions. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more depth and nuanced reasoning rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the introduction to the two body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In conclusion'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the example in the second paragraph and the following sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'mindsets', 'stagnant', and 'narrow mind'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'god thing' (good thing), 'relevants matters', and 'homecountry'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms to convey meaning. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, while also paying closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Everybody have', 'friends that agrees'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas). These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, although they do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and punctuation, while also attempting to incorporate a wider range of complex structures with more precision.
