Student answer (Band 5.5)

Friends play a crucial role in human life. They involve in our life in several ways such as helping in complex situation or advising in a difficult problem. When it is hard to take any dicission, at first friends come forward to help. But sometimes it happens also that, someone can not agree with each topics with their friends. I believe that, sometimes disagreement is better.

On the one hand, It is happening regularly that when we meet our friends we talk about several things and we all have tended to follow our those friend who are doing well in academically or professionally. We believe that what they say may be right all the time and we also agree with their all statements without investigate. As a result, sometimes we may receive false news. It my create conflict with them in future.

On the other hand , when we learn anything from our friend at first we investigate then we should talk about the matter . If it is false we should definitely disagree with them and also should give the best possible reply . This may reduce the chances of future misunderstanding with them. This practical practice may be seemed very rude in present but it will make relationship much stronger. When they realize the positive side of disagreement in friendship they may try to improve their own personality.

In conclusion, although having same opinion in friendship has several benefits such as it keep relationship in stable, I believe that , disagreement is also a part of friendship because it makes friendship much stronger and healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding why people follow friends who are 'doing well' is not fully explored, and the explanation of how disagreement improves personality is a bit vague. While the task is addressed, the supporting points lack depth and specific examples from personal experience, which are required to reach higher bands. The position is consistent, but the overall development remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the phrasing 'It is happening regularly that when we meet our friends'. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, which affects the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'they involve in our life' instead of 'they are involved in our lives', and 'without investigate' instead of 'without investigating'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but the lack of sophisticated or idiomatic language limits the score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'someone can not agree with each topics' (incorrect preposition and pluralisation), 'It my create conflict' (spelling error), and 'This practical practice may be seemed very rude' (incorrect passive voice construction). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. More attention to subject-verb agreement and verb forms is needed.
