Student answer (Band 6.0)

In all ages as we see each person need friends. So, making good friends for life long is key point to spend life with joyfully. If two persons are friend, then their mind set is some time different and sometime same. In my viewpoint both statements are true that some with same opinion and some with different opinions are good friends.

As if we have that friend with same viewpoint and always say yes if we say yes then that friend is not good friend, but it is also very important that if both friends have same types of opinions, then decision of any problem is short out quickly and effectively. For example, if I like sci fiction movies then I want company of that friend who have same interest as I am so we both enjoy that particular moment together.

Same as that if we both have different thinking process that also good in some intense. Because in some situation seeing problems with different angles is so important. For example, if I stuck in any life related problem and I have never found any solution regard this. Then friend with other opinion help me out because they see same problem with different approach that good for us.

In conclusion, friends with same age same mindset make good combination of friendship but if we stuck with any problem then friend with different mindsets are more beneficial.so we cannot say that only same opinions friends always make great pairs of good friend examples.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, such as the sci-fi movie preference or solving life problems, they are brief and lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments. For instance, explaining the psychological benefits of diverse perspectives in more detail would strengthen the response. The position is consistent, but the overall development remains basic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'In conclusion', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, starting multiple sentences with 'Same as that' or 'If' makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good friend' and 'same opinion' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'short out quickly' (likely meaning 'sort out') and 'intense' (used incorrectly for 'instance'). To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations that sound natural in an IELTS context. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('the' before 'same opinion'), subject-verb agreement errors ('each person need'), and awkward phrasing ('if I stuck in any life related problem'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will also help your score.
