Student answer (Band 6.0)

Whether some people believe it is good to make friends with similar opinions or others think that friends with opposite thoughts have more benefit has been sparked a heated debate. As per me, later notion has a better approach and reasons are supporting both views are mentioned below.

To embark on the former notion, having a friends with comparable opinion can help to create a good bond with each other. To clarify this, when they take similar decisions about their studies or work or personal lives, it makes them convenient to share their thoughts with each other without thinking about any judgement. Along with this, This will also prevent them from violence regarding their choices, they can be more happy and stress-free. Therefore, choosing a friend who have a same taste is a better for individuals these days.

However, why is it considered that good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them. The prominent one is give a right path to important decisions. To elaborate it, if people have friend who has opposite opinions, he or she help to understand the value of other choices instead of making just one choice. For instance, I have one of my friend who think totally opposite to me and when I share my obstacles with him, he always shows me a different opinion, which I initial think that he is wrong but at the end, his decision gives me right path to reach at my destination.

In conclusion, some masses views for this phenomenon from another side of the coin, I personally believe that people should choose a friend who sometimes disagree with their opinions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument for having friends with similar opinions is supported by the idea of 'convenience' and 'stress-free' interactions, but these points are not fully extended. Similarly, the second body paragraph provides a personal example, which is good, but the explanation of why disagreement is beneficial could be more sophisticated. The position is clear throughout, but the overall depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To embark on the former notion', 'To clarify this', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural, such as 'To embark on the former notion' to introduce a paragraph. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing, such as 'the later notion' (should be 'the latter') and 'some masses views', which slightly disrupt the flow of ideas. The progression of the argument is generally clear, but the cohesion is not always smooth.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'has been sparked a heated debate' (should be 'has sparked'), 'violence regarding their choices' (likely meant 'conflict'), and 'some masses views'. While the meaning is generally clear, the student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'having a friends' (article error), 'choosing a friend who have a same taste' (subject-verb agreement and article error), and 'I have one of my friend who think' (pluralization and agreement). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. A greater focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
