Student answer (Band 6.5)

People have different views about whether it is better to have friends who share the same opinions or those who sometimes oppose with each other. In this essay, I shall discuss both the perspectives before presenting my own opinion.

Out of all the arguments, one of the prominent advantages of choosing friends who have similar opinions is that their friendships are usually more comfortable and enjoyable. That is to say, if the friends have similar interests and beliefs then they can communicate more easily and are less likely to have serios arguments. Moreover, they can understand each other well without spending more explaining situation. For instance, if two friends are both interested in cricket, they can watch matches together are discuss their favourite players, which can strengthen their relationships. In addition, they can enjoy same activities, such as playing a soccer, travelling or going to restaurants.

On the other hand, some people argue that having friends who sometimes disagree opinions can be extremely valuable. Furthermore, different opinions encourage people to look at situations from another perspective. When a friend oppose idea of respectfully, other friend may benefits from their opinion. As a consequence, they can become more open minded and their relationships become even more stronger. For example, if someone is considering changing their job, a friend with a different opinion might help him/her for financial risks and problems is a future career.

In conclusion, although some individuals argue that friends who sometimes disagree with them is helpful for career choice. However, I strongly believe that having friends with similar choice and opinions makes relationships respectful, easier and more comfortable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the comfort of shared interests versus the growth potential of differing perspectives. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second body paragraph is slightly underdeveloped, and the conclusion contains a minor inconsistency where you mention 'career choice' as the primary context for disagreement, which was not the focus of the preceding argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are fully integrated and that your conclusion accurately reflects the breadth of the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'Out of all the arguments', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'without spending more explaining situation'. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within the second body paragraph could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally will help elevate this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prominent advantages', 'open minded', and 'financial risks'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'oppose with each other' (should be 'disagree with each other'), 'serios arguments' (spelling error), and 'spending more explaining situation' (grammatically incomplete). You also use 'stronger' after 'even more', which is redundant. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and proofreading for minor spelling and word-form errors that occasionally distract from your otherwise clear message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical slips that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'watch matches together are discuss' (should be 'and discuss'), 'playing a soccer' (remove 'a'), 'friend oppose idea of respectfully' (should be 'opposes an idea respectfully'), and 'relationships become even more stronger' (should be 'even stronger'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
