Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The ideas are somewhat simplistic and lack detailed supporting examples. For instance, the explanation of why people prefer friends with similar opinions is vague and repetitive. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more specific real-world examples and ensure you meet the word count requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'In addition of this' and 'later views are more important instead of fast'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, making the flow feel a bit unnatural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases more naturally, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'its goods' instead of 'it is good' and 'according their choice' instead of 'according to their choice'. The repetition of basic words like 'friends', 'opinion', and 'different' limits the sophistication of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and enhance the clarity and impact of your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('everyone think', 'every individual have'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around punctuation marks. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors interfere with the overall fluency of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common grammatical slips before submitting your work.
