Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals believe that having friends with same thinking is a best choice while, others argue that friend with different opinions is better. This essay will explicate both these views along with my perspective.

To commence with, having friends with same opinion is better to maintain a peaceful friendship. In other words, they have less conflicts and arguments regarding anything that makes their bond more strong because they agree to each other's viewpoints as they have similar values, interests and way of thinking. Moreover, they encourage each other in important matters. As a result, their friendship lasts for long time. For example, two friends with similar career goals can motivate each other and make decision together that will make them successful in life.

Moving to the second statement, friends with disagreements is better option as a person can see any situation from a different angle. To explain this, different perspectives are necessary sometimes for a better decision. Furthermore, a friend with different thinking can guide us by pointing out our mistakes and help us improve. As a result, a person becomes able to take a better decision by discussing different viewpoints that can lead to better solution for a problem.

In conclusion, although friends with similar opinion can make the friendship more stronger by supparty each other in any situation, but I opine that friends who can disagree with them sometimes can be a better choice because respectful disagreement can help us learn and grow better in different circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall development of ideas. While the main points are relevant, they are somewhat brief and could benefit from more detailed examples or deeper analysis to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, but the lack of length prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between ideas is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel slightly repetitive in structure. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the overall flow could be improved with more varied linking phrases to connect the arguments more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary like 'viewpoints', 'perspectives', and 'circumstances'. However, there are minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'supparty' (a spelling error) and 'make the friendship more stronger' (a grammatical redundancy). The range of vocabulary is sufficient but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'friend with different opinions is better' (missing article) and 'they agree to each other's viewpoints' (incorrect preposition). Additionally, the sentence 'although friends with similar opinion can make the friendship more stronger by supparty each other in any situation, but I opine...' contains a double conjunction error. These errors do not impede communication but occur frequently enough to limit the score.
