IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people hold different opinions about whether they choose the friends with the same mindset or others argue that having a contradict friends group is sometimes better for over development. In the upcoming paragraph, I will discuss both the perspective before committing my opinion.

There are several benefits of having the same mindset in a friends group. Firstly, you can discuss the ideas among all. For example, in a group of six people, everyone likes to talk about the physics; you get to know something new every time. Another reason is having people with the same qualities and motivation makes you feel better even when you do not feel like working or want to do nothing. It is something like motivation. To illustrate, if two people who train themselves in the gym for the same competition, they can motivate each other to push harder. Furthermore, if having any doubt or needing clarity for something. You do not have to look for someone if you have similar-minded friends.

On the other hand, disagreement on something that you propose in your group is healthy. Because you can get an idea if you are wrong or will doing to. In addition, different mindsets challenge your assumptions and introduce you to fresh ways of thinking and creative problem-solving. Because of that, you can boost your adaptability and resilience. For instance, research shows that interacting with a varied network improves your life satisfaction, reduces stress, and increases your ability to handle life changes.

To sum up, although both present valid arguments, I believe that having different opinion people in your life is best, as it offers you the opportunity to think on different topics, and you can train your brain with a larger amount of problems.

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'mindset', 'adaptability', 'resilience', and 'creative problem-solving'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'contradict friends group' instead of 'group of conflicting friends', 'will doing to', and 'different opinion people'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not significantly impede communication, making this a solid Band 6 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses.
