IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

A few individuals believe friendship will work better with the people who have same opinions as them while others argue that it is better to have friends who disagree respectfully, such peers help to provide different perspective. I opine that both the statements have their equal importance.

In today's world it is a difficult task to find a perfect friend, however, if someone finds a friend with same thoughts it makes life easy. The main reason is that communication become easy and the possibility of arguments reduce, simultaneously. For example, two friends with same thought can easily solve a problem either related to studies or life because they will agree on a same solution.

On the other hand, friends with different views who disagree respectfully helps to think more logically, such as if someone wants to change a career, a friend with different point of view might raise concerns and suggest better alternatives.

In my point of view, in a group of friends, people can easily make friendship with those who always agree and with someone who helps to think differently. A person with same thoughts understands better and provide long term relationship, on the other side, a friend who disagree will help to provide critical thinking and more balances decisions.

To conclude, I believe that having a good friend is a blessing and it is difficult to survive with one friend, therefore, a friend who always agree makes communicate easy and another friend with different point of view helps to think more realistic and logical.
