IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people think it's better to choose friends who always have the same opinions as them. Other people believe it's good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

While a number of individuals believe the best way to choose friends is with those who always have same opinions, others argue that it is better to have friends who sometimes conflicts with them. Although both viewpoints have merit, I believe that friends who diasgree occasionally are essential for personal growth.

On the one hand, proponents are of the opinion that it is better to opt for friends with same ideas. A key reason is that same views and thoughts enables individuals to develop a strong and enduring friendship. For instance, a large number of young people choose friends with similar career goals and personal interests. This approach might be suitable for friends who can share their ideas and learn from each other. If individuals spend enough time to choose their friends, they are more likely to develop meaningful relationships.

Conversely, opponents contend that it is essential to choose friends who do not agree to everything with us. This is largely because differences in opinion could lead to diagreement. Having healthy conflicts might lead to personal growth as it lets an individuals improve their abilities and thoughts to accomplish a goal. To illustrate, certain aruments arises during group activities such as sports and team projects. Rather than focusing on setbacks, disagreements are necessary to cultivate discipline, honesty and cooperation among friends. Consequently, supportive friends who diagrees sometimes are important part for the long-term learning.

In conclusion, several individuals consider whether that friends with same opinions are better than those who often diagrees with them. From my perspective, I firmly believe that friends who argue sometimes is essential for overall personal growth.
