Student answer (Band 6.0)

Frinds play an essential role in someone's life. Some individuals believe that having friends with the same ideas are better for friendships, whereas other people argue that it is better to have friends with different opinions. This essay will discuss both the views with my perspective.

To commence with, friends with same opinions are better for life. This is because they have less arguments as their mindset is similar. They easily understand each others point of view. Therefore, it is beneficial to have friends with same ideas. Furthermore, best friends can enjoy their company, if they have same sort of mind set as they do not have any arguments with each other.Hence, their friendship gets stonger with eachother.

On the other side, some masses think that it is better to have confidant, who sometimes disagree with them. It makes healthy competition between friends without any fightings,as they try to understand each others point of view. Thus, they can learn from other person disagreement .Moreover, friendship does not get boaring. As they always try to make their point right and always argue with each other. That makes friendship lively. Also, it can make person more mature. This is because one can get broader knowlege about any situation. They get more acceptance in them by acceting arguments from their co-partner.

In conclusion, friends with similar interest last lons as they do not fight often with eachother; however, best friends with disagreements not only give you more knowlege of other person's side but also makes you more mature to accept the truth sometime. That is why I strongly believe to have friends with different opinion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on friendship and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining how friends with similar opinions experience fewer arguments while those with differing views stimulate mental growth. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize and some supporting points become repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs. For instance, the discussion on arguments and mindsets is reiterated multiple times without introducing significantly new dimensions of thought. Despite these minor limitations, the main prompt requirements are fully met, reflecting a solid Band 6.5 performance according to the descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, discussion of the first view, discussion of the second view, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other side'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, sentences like 'As they always try to make their point right and always argue with each other. That makes friendship lively' demonstrate incorrect punctuation and fragmented cohesion. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but logical progression within paragraphs suffers from repetitive phrasing and weak connective links. This fits a Band 6 level well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'confidant', 'healthy competition', and 'co-partner'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('Frinds', 'stonger', 'boaring', 'knowlege', 'acceting', 'lons') and word choice inaccuracies that detract from the overall quality. Phrases like 'different opinion' instead of 'differing opinions' show recurring lexical limitations. While communication is not impeded by these issues, the frequency of spelling mistakes and restricted precision prevent the response from achieving a higher band. The lexical resource aligns comfortably with Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors; a score of 6.0 is awarded as the vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditionals and relative clauses such as 'This is because they have less arguments as their mindset is similar.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving article usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, such as 'friends with the same ideas are better' and missing spaces after periods. Furthermore, sentence boundary errors occur, such as starting a sentence with 'As they always try...' directly after a period. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex structures. This performance is characteristic of a Band 5.5 or 6.0, and a score of 5.5 reflects the persistent grammatical inaccuracies.
