Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now there are predominantely two schools of thought about friends. One section asserts that companion always have similar point of views; however, the majority of section reckon that having disagreement also important in friendship. Both perceptions have their own importance which will be elaborted in the subsequent paragraphs.

To begin with, there are some reasons why it is belived that friends always have same opinions about specific topic. Initially, Freinds who have similar opinions, there are less likely to conflicts between them. To explain it, if their thinking level is same, they will not fight with each other which makes strong relationship bond and it will be beneficial for their long term friendship. For instance, it is often seen that who have similar interst enjoy their life and psychological and physically fitt as comapred to those whom options do not match. Hence, they can easily share their problem with other without any hasitation and try to tackle that issue togather which not only helps to reduce stress but also useful to find a solution.

On the flip side, those who think that it is good to have friends who sometime disagrre with them brings also some clarifications. First and foremost, by disagreement with friends, people's decision making power can be developed. To make it lucid, individuals can make their decision by themsleves without taking advice of anyone which will be worthwhile for their future becuase they have to handle some circumstances alone. Due to it, if sometime opinions are distinct with other, it is better to identify their own streanth and weakeness as well as they can learn to know the differences between wrong and right things. Hence, this teach them to become independent in life.

In conclusion, although similar opinions beneficial for avoiding conflicts in relationships, disagreement also important to beocme independent and for chossing right directions instead of always follow others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—having friends with similar opinions versus having friends who disagree—and provides a clear personal opinion throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant and extended, such as discussing how avoiding conflicts promotes mental well-being and how disagreements foster independence and decision-making skills. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize or become slightly repetitive, as seen in the body paragraphs where points about conflict avoidance and independence are reiterated without introducing new dimensions. Despite these minor limitations in full idea development, the candidate successfully covers the core requirements of the prompt and maintains a clear position, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile. We award a Band 6.5 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction, through two distinct body paragraphs representing opposing views, to a concise conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate the main themes. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'To begin with', 'On the flip side', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, with awkward transitional phrasing like 'brings also some clarifications' and repetitive referencing structures. Additionally, some cohesive links feel slightly unnatural, which prevents the essay from reaching higher bands. Overall, the organizational structure is sound and serves the communication well, earning a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'predominantely', 'psychological', and 'independent'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('predominantely', 'elaborted', 'belived', 'Freinds', 'interst', 'fitt', 'comapred', 'hasitation', 'togather', 'sometime', 'disagrre', 'slefs', 'becuase', 'streanth', 'weakeness', 'chossing') and occasional word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'majority of section' instead of 'majority of people'. While these lexical errors occur frequently throughout the text, they do not severely impede communication because the intended meaning remains clear to the reader. These characteristics correspond closely to the Band 5.5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'if their thinking level is same, they will not fight with each other'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('companion always have', 'who have similar interst... fitt'), missing articles ('is good to have friends'), and awkward prepositional usage. Many complex sentence structures contain noticeable structural flaws, such as 'for instance, it is often seen that who have similar interst enjoy their life'. These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, fitting comfortably into the Band 5.0 level of grammatical control.
