Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that one should only make friends who have same opinions like them. However others say that one should also have some friends with different natures, who sometimes disagree with them. This essay intends to discuss both views .

I completely agree that one must also have friends who are not same alike. Because, one also need to think or see the world from different perspective. If one have friend with the same opinions they cannot think out of the box and got stuck in their own world. Moreover, having friends with different opinions helps a person to grow more. They let an individual to come out from their comfort zone and make them confident. For instance, two intorvert friends can never open with others meanwhile, an extrovert friend may help the other one to mix up early with the group of people. In addition, having blunt and straightforward friends certainly helps for not taking any bad decision. For the sake of the friendship they do not let the person suffer bt disagree and ask a person to change their opinion.

On the other hand, people who have friends with same opinions. They particularly have less fights and their bond seems to stay for forever. As they share same thoughts so, there are less chances of disagreements Furthermore, it may seem more natural friendship as one do not need to think from other aspect their logics and ideas are same so they can in help each other's problems. Lastly, it bring more bliss and laughter in the friendship. They can openly share jokes, enjoy the same food etcetra.

To sum up, although having a same nature friends is a blessing but one must have a few friends who are not alike them as they help a person think out of the circle, may disagree with the wrong choices and helps a person to grow more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—having friends with identical opinions versus friends who disagree—and clearly states the writer's personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended with relevant explanations, such as how differing perspectives prevent people from getting stuck in their own world and how identical views can reduce conflict. However, some arguments lack full depth or contain slight digressions, such as the example regarding introverts and extroverts which drifts slightly into personality traits rather than strictly focusing on opinions. Nevertheless, the position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the prompt are well-covered, aligning closely with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors. Overall, the task is successfully fulfilled with a clear stance and supported arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the writer's viewpoint, the opposing perspective, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' are used to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. While referencing is mostly clear, a few sentences are clipped or lack smooth internal cohesion, such as 'On the other hand, people who have friends with same opinions. They particularly have less fights...', where punctuation breaks the flow. Overall, the structural progression is easy to follow, justifying a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their thoughts clearly. There are attempts to use less common items and phrases such as 'out of the box', 'comfort zone', and 'blunt and straightforward', showing some flexibility. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'not same alike', 'open with others', 'mix up early', and 'for forever'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical errors prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. The range is sufficient to communicate the arguments effectively, but precision is occasionally lacking, placing it firmly at a Band 6.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures like conditional and concessive clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing that persist throughout the essay, such as 'have same opinions like them', 'one also need to', 'got stuck', 'they do not let the person suffer bt disagree', and 'one do not need to think from other aspect'. Punctuation errors are also present, such as sentence fragments in the third paragraph ('On the other hand, people who have friends with same opinions. They particularly have...'). While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the grammar from achieving a Band 6.5 or higher.
