Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to address both views regarding friends with similar versus differing opinions, but the development of ideas is severely hindered by repetitive phrasing and unclear articulation. Phrases such as 'choosing friends have same opinion' are repeated throughout without adding substantial depth or concrete examples. Although a personal viewpoint is stated towards the end, the arguments remain largely underdeveloped and tangential, failing to fully explore the nuances of the prompt. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 4 descriptors, where the task is addressed only minimally and ideas lack proper expansion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay displays significant structural weaknesses that disrupt the overall flow. While basic paragraphing is attempted, the logical progression is frequently broken by repetitive sentences and disconnected thoughts. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, making transitions between paragraphs abrupt and confusing. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Initiating with the points' and 'On its otherside' are awkward and fail to connect ideas smoothly. Referencing is also unclear, particularly with pronouns and dangling phrases. This level of organisation corresponds to a Band 4 score, as information and ideas are not arranged in a coherent manner.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on inaccurate forms of words, such as 'choose friends' instead of 'choosing friends' or 'same opinion' instead of 'shared opinions'. There are noticeable errors in word formation and collocation throughout the text, including 'accross', 'asume', and 'propenents'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited, which strains the reader's comprehension and prevents the writer from conveying precise meanings. This falls squarely into the Band 4 descriptor, characterised by basic, repetitive vocabulary and errors that strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical structures used throughout the response are extremely limited and frequently faulty. The text contains numerous basic errors in tense, agreement, and sentence construction, such as 'There are no denying fact' and 'this often lead to same opinion'. Complex sentence forms are either absent or attempted with severe errors that distort the intended meaning. Punctuation and control over simple sentence patterns are weak, with frequent grammatical breakdowns. These persistent, major errors throughout almost every sentence place the response at a Band 4 level.
