Student answer (Band 6.0)

Friendship plays important role in everyone's life. A majority of people opine that it's a blessing to have friends who have same prespectives as like them, while others think differently as they believe it is far better to have friends who have contrasting opinions. I believe it is good to have a friend who have similar kind of mind set however, indeed he or she must not support a person in his bad decisions.

Those who support this prespective often argue that having similar thinking between two friends related to everything, strengthen their friendship. This is because it could be easy for them to understand their feelings and words. As a result, there might be fewer chances of conflicts between them. For example, if two good friends prepare a project then there would be high chances to get positive outcomes in comparison to others. Taken together, individuals who have same mindset could become close friends.

Opponents of other view claim that if two friends sometimes think in opposite direction, it could help them to find all the possible outcomes of a situation. They will give their opinions based on their own prespectives and life experiences. Consequently, they could guide each other in taking many crucial decisions of their lives. For example, A good friend must not encourage his friend to do cheating in the exam rather than supporting him to do that.

In conclusion, some people are in support of having friends who have same mindset as it improve their relationship, while others opine that sometime friends must not have same views as it will help them to get different opinions related to a situation. I think people must have a friend who have similar a prespective but also stop other friend from doing those things that could bring problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on friendship and providing a clear personal position throughout. The main ideas are generally relevant, covering the benefits of shared perspectives and contrasting opinions. However, some ideas are less developed than others. For instance, the second body paragraph relies on a brief and somewhat simplistic project example, and the explanation of how differing opinions help in life decisions could be extended further with more robust supporting arguments. Nevertheless, the position is maintained clearly from the introduction through to the conclusion, fulfilling the core requirements of this level well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical organization. Information and ideas are divided into appropriate paragraphs, each starting with a clear topic sentence, such as in the second and third body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, though some referencing and transitions can feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'This is because' and 'For example'. Progression is generally clear throughout the text, successfully bridging the gap to higher standards while retaining features characteristic of this level of organization.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'contrasting opinions', 'prespective', and 'crucial decisions'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including repeated misspellings of 'perspective' as 'prespective', and awkward collocations like 'do cheating in the exam'. Despite these limitations, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the main arguments clearly, and the lexical errors do not seriously impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. There are some grammatical errors in articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'Friendship plays important role', 'a friend who have similar kind of mind set', and missing articles. Punctuation and verb forms also contain occasional inaccuracies, such as 'it improve their relationship' instead of 'improves'. However, these errors are mixed with correct structures and rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid blend of controlled simple structures and ambitious attempts at complexity.
