Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals believe that having friends with similar thaughts is benificial, while others think that friends with opposite opinions are also sometimes helpful. I will discuss both the views in following paragraphs and give my personal opinion at the end.

To begin with, I would like to mention some perks of having close friends with identical intrests. Every Conversation with them feels smooth and positive. People tends to have less arguments with ones who have similar ideology, for instance. Closed one like these help you to grow in the direction chosen by you. They are always available to motivate you if there are any difficulties. Moreover, you will always feel confident with them.

On the other hand, some individuals also prefer to have best friends who sometimes disagree with them. I think it is important for a friend to correct you if you are taking wrong decision or doing something ungreatful. People believe that these kind of friends helps you grow even further than the first mentioned group of friends. If someone always replies positively, they are not your true friends, says one of my friends. He thinks that a true friend should not agree with you if you are wrong or making any kind of mistakes.

Finally, I would like to state my opinion as the conclusion of the esssay. I strongly believe that a friend who sometimes disagree with you is the real friend of yours. For instance, a real friend will argue with you if you have choosen a career that is completely opposite from your intrests. He will help you to understand that doing what you like is better than following a path that is guided by someone else. That is why, I prefer these friends over others who always agree with you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and make your own preference clear: the first body paragraph explains the comfort and motivation offered by like-minded friends, while the second and conclusion argue that disagreement can help a person make better choices. The career example gives your opinion some support. This meets the task well, and the position is clear, but the development is uneven: benefits such as feeling “confident” and having fewer arguments are asserted rather than explained, and the example about choosing a career could show more specifically how a friend’s disagreement helps. To strengthen the response further, extend each main point with a concrete consequence or example and make the comparison between the two kinds of friendship more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that states your preference. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “Finally” helps readers follow the discussion, and the ideas within each paragraph generally stay on topic. This is a strong organisational foundation. At times, however, the linking feels formulaic, and some references are not fully clear—for example, “these kind of friends” and “the first mentioned group” make the reader pause to identify the intended group. Use a wider range of natural links between claims, and repeat a key noun where a pronoun or vague reference might be ambiguous. This would make the progression smoother and less dependent on signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “identical interests,” “motivate,” “correct you,” and “career,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts to express distinctions between the two types of friendship. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing awkward: “thaughts,” “benificial,” “intrests,” and “ungreatful” are misspelled, while “close one” and “doing something ungreatful” are not natural expressions in context. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “friends” and “agree.” Build accuracy with common collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe a friend as “a close friend” and say that someone is “making a poor decision.” More precise phrasing would make your ideas sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including conditional and relative structures such as “if you are taking wrong decision” and “a friend who sometimes disagree with you.” The overall meaning remains clear, and the paragraph structure gives you opportunities to show a wider range. Some grammatical errors persist, especially subject–verb agreement and articles: “People tends” should be “People tend,” “these kind of friends helps” should be “this kind of friend helps” or “these kinds of friends help,” and “a wrong decision” needs an article. There are also awkward sentence constructions, such as “I will discuss both the views in following paragraphs.” Review agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete, natural grammatical pattern.
