Student answer (Band 6.0)

Friends play a crucial role in our life. A good and trustworthy friend will always support you for right things. In today's world, where everyone is concern with their own benefits thinks that friends should be with them even if they are doing wrong. In my opinion, backing up your friend without considering if they are right or wrong is not always good. In my opinion choosing friends who always have the same opinion as yours is not advantageous.

On the one hand, the friends who have same opinion as yours gives you the feeling that someone is there with you for your support. This give individuals a sense of comfort and trust that they can share anything with their friend.

On the other hand, having a friend with same opinion is not always beneficial because that friend will not be able to guide you with the right thing. The friend is a guide, mentor for an individual. It is really important to choose a friend who sometimes disagree with you so that you'll be able to think beyond your intutions and make your decisions. At every stage of life we meet new people, some of them become so close to us that we consider them as a family member that is why it is crucial to choose wisely who is really a good, loyal friend because they will going to stay with you for life and may help you with important life decisions.

I would like to conclude this by saying that although, it is important to have atleast one friend in your life with whom you can share anything, expecting the same opinion from them is not right if you are truly looking for a good advice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both perspectives and make your own position clear: you recognise the comfort of friends who agree, but argue that friends should sometimes challenge us. The point that disagreement can help people “think beyond” their assumptions is relevant, and the conclusion reinforces your view. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The benefit of agreement is explained mainly as comfort and trust, while the case for disagreement receives more explanation but remains general. The claim that a friend is a “guide, mentor” and may help with life decisions would be stronger with a specific example showing how respectful disagreement leads to a better choice. Develop each view with a reason and an illustrative example to make the discussion more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs beginning “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and the final paragraph returns to your central opinion. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The introduction repeats “In my opinion,” and the long sentence beginning “At every stage of life” combines several ideas—meeting people, choosing loyal friends, and receiving help with decisions—without clearly showing how each point relates to the argument. The contrast between friends who agree and friends who disagree could also be signposted more consistently. Reduce repetition and divide the longer explanation into shorter, logically linked sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “support,” “comfort,” “trust,” “guide,” and “loyal friend,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “think beyond your intutions,” although the spelling and phrasing are not fully controlled. Some word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise: “concern with their own benefits,” “backing up your friend for right things,” and “a good advice” do not sound natural in context. The repeated use of “friend” and “opinion” also limits variety. Build a more precise range of phrases for agreement, constructive challenge, and decision-making, and check spelling and common word combinations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a friend who sometimes disagree with you” and a conditional idea in “if you are truly looking for a good advice.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “friends who have same opinion … gives” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “This give individuals” also needs subject–verb agreement. In “they will going to stay,” the future form is incorrectly constructed. The opening sentence beginning “In today’s world” is also difficult to parse because its clauses are not joined clearly. Review agreement and verb patterns, and proofread longer sentences for complete, well-connected clauses.
