Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some of the individuals believe that it is better to have friends with same mindset and on the other hand it is good to have friends with different mindset. In this paragraph I will discuss about both opinions and then give my own.

To begin with, friends play a crucial role in everyone's life. Without friends sometimes people feel lonely. When two people have same mindset they share same values and understand each other feelings. They will know each other like what that person is thinking that time. For example, when two friends study in same school then they know each other goals and know what they want to acheive and it will help them to do good in their life.

On the other hand, some people believe that the friends who sometimes disagree with you is also a good approch because sometimes people make wrong decisions in their life like about the marriage or sometimes about the study course. If friends disagree with you sometimes it would be helpful for you because they know you for long time. They know about you also as this decision will be good for you in future or no.

In my opinion, I think if people have friends with different mindset is a good approch because sometimes people make wrong decisions in their life ans friens will help you.

To conclude, friens play a crucial role in everone life and withour friens

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views and state a preference for friends with different mindsets, so the response is relevant to the question. The example about friends helping with decisions on marriage or study courses supports the view that disagreement can be useful. However, the first view is only briefly explained, and the school example mainly says friends share goals rather than showing why having the same opinions is beneficial. Your own position is stated, but its reason is repeated rather than developed. The conclusion is unfinished, which leaves the response without a complete final summary. The response is also 13 words below the required minimum. Develop each view with a clearer explanation and a specific example, then complete the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, a statement of your opinion, and an attempted conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in viewpoint. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are repeated, particularly the claim that friends help when people make wrong decisions. Some references are unclear, as in “they know you for long time” and “this decision,” where the reader must infer who or what is meant. The final sentence stops mid-thought, disrupting the ending. Use clearer links between claims and examples, avoid repeating the same reason, and finish with a complete conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “crucial role,” “lonely,” “values,” and “disagree.” The wording is generally understandable, but the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “same mindset” and “make wrong decisions.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “good approch,” “achieve” (misspelled as “acheive”), and “know each other like what that person is thinking.” These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe friends as “sharing similar outlooks” or say they “offer a different perspective” rather than repeating “mindset.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main points using mostly simple sentences and make some attempts at longer structures, such as “If friends disagree with you sometimes it would be helpful for you because they know you for long time.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. Errors include missing articles and possessives in “friends with same mindset” and “understand each other feelings,” subject–verb disagreement in “the friends who sometimes disagree with you is,” and awkward clause construction in “They know about you also as this decision will be good for you in future or no.” Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Practise accurate article use, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then build longer sentences from these reliable patterns.
