Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and state a clear preference for friends who sometimes disagree, particularly in the final body paragraph and conclusion. The workplace example also shows why disagreement can help someone reconsider a decision. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the case for friends with similar opinions relies mainly on shared activities and choosing a dress, while the benefits and limits of disagreement are not explored in much detail. The opening also says “This essay will discuss both of you,” which does not clearly introduce the two views. To strengthen the response, explain each view more fully and connect examples directly to why that type of friendship is valuable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “For instance” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several links are mechanical or inaccurate. For example, “Although” introduces a sentence that does not complete a contrast, while “However” before the point about enjoying activities does not express a clear opposing idea. The conclusion repeats the opinion but ends with an unclear phrase. Use fewer, more precise connectors and make each sentence develop the point immediately before it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “point of view,” “strong bond,” “professional work,” and “significant decision.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “making a friends,” “same opinion friends,” “different mindset,” and “modify your dissison.” The repeated use of “opinion” and “friends” also limits variety. Aim to learn common combinations such as “share similar views,” “offer a different perspective,” and “reconsider a decision.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, and choose vocabulary that expresses the intended relationship between friends more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, including sentences beginning with “Although” and “if,” but control is inconsistent, and frequent errors can make parts of the response difficult to understand. For example, “colleagues who have same point of view is beneficial” has problems with articles and subject–verb agreement, while “Friends with the different opinions will guide you … and and could do disagree” is structurally unclear. There are also errors in sentence formation and punctuation, such as the incomplete contrast beginning “Although, you choose one dress.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Check articles, singular and plural agreement, and ensure each sentence has a complete, logical structure.
